Roanoke Aikido
From his very first class with the late Dan York at Aikido of Roanoke, John was hooked on Aiki.
Miller Sensei, or Coach Miller as most call him currently teaches Aikido and grappling through the dojos of the Kyuusai Budo Kai in Roanoke, VA.
Miller Sensei, Nidan, is a member of Sosei Aikido Kyokai and is working with Bob Garza, Yondan and director of Sosei Aikido Kyokai, to continually improve his Aikido program and further the vision of Fumio Toyoda Shihan to make Aikido available for everyone.
He is a certified instructor through AIKIA’s World International Network, the worlds foremost independent martial arts teachers organization operated by Dr. Jerry Beasley.
John is an Associate Coach under Mark Hatmaker in the Empirical Western Combat Arts (boxing, wrestling, and submission grappling).
Coach Miller also holds Bronze Level wrestling coach certification from USA Wrestling, the national governing body for the sport of wrestling in the United States.
Under the guidance of Dr. Jerry Beasley, his mentor and teacher, he continues to develop two key attributes:
•KNOWLEDGE - detailed information in regard to the application and principles of technique and the elements of combat.
•UNDERSTANDING - an awareness and proficiency beyond the physical actions of executing technique
He is currently enrolled in the Biblical Studies program from the Liberty Home Bible Institute and holds a degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Radford University. He combines both of these disciplines with the martial arts with the goal of improving the spiritual fruit and athletic performance of the practitioner.
His personal philosophy is “self-expression through the martial arts.” In order to be effective, the tactics and techniques need to be simple, match the persons personality and attributes, and become natural extensions of the person by connecting the body, mind, and spirit.
Coach Miller also acts as the Information Manager for www.AIKIA.net, the world’s first and foremost independent martial arts teachers organization.

The techniques of Aikido change constantly; every encounter is unique, and the appropriate response should emerge naturally. Today's techniques will be different tomorrow. Do not get caught up with the form and appearance of a challenge. Aikido has no form - it is the study of the spirit.
